Field Trips / Paseos

Last week, we had an opportunity to go on three, that is right, three field trips!

La semana pasada, tuvimos la oportunidad de ir a tres, si tres, salidas de campo.  

We started the week by going to the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History.  Our scholars had a great time exploring the different exhibits and learning more about the magnificent humpback whales at the IMAX.  

Empezamos la semana yendo al Museo de Fort Worth de Ciencia e Historia. Nuestros sabios se divirtieron explorando las diferentes exposiciones y aprender más sobre las magníficas ballenas jorobadas en el IMAX.

On Friday, we had the privilege to visit the Botanical Gardens at Heritage Park.  Scholars learned about plant and animal life cycles, got their hands dirty planting herbs, and read their legends they created as part of their wildflower cross curricular study.  

El viernes, tuvimos el privilegio de visitar el Jardín Botánico en Heritage Park. Los eruditos aprendieron acerca de los ciclos de vida de plantas y animales, se ensuciaron las manos plantando hierbas y leyeron sus leyendas que crearon como parte de su estudio curricular de flores silvestres.

 

To end our week, scholars had chance to go to the Ecology Center at Grapevine High School on Saturday and it was incredible!  Scholars rotated through five stations and at each station they learned about different science concepts and had hands on activities to solidify their learning.

Para terminar nuestra semana, los eruditos tuvieron la oportunidad de ir al Centro de Ecología de Grapevine High School el sábado y fue increíble! Los estudiosos visitaron cinco estaciones y en cada estación aprendieron sobre diferentes conceptos de la ciencia y hicieron varias actividades para consolidar su aprendizaje.

Random Acts of Kindness Challenge

Did you know that February 9-13 is "officially" designated as RAK (Random Acts of Kindness) Week? Our scholars have stepped up to the challenge by demonstrating intentional acts of kindness to those who surround them.  We will end this week celebrating Valentine's Day, so don't forget to join us from 1:45-2:45 for our classroom parties.  

¿Sabías que 9 a 13 febrero es "oficialmente" designado como semana de Random Acts of Kindness o Actos Espontáneos de Bondad? Nuestros expertos han intensificado el reto demostrando actos intencionales de bondad a los que les rodean. Vamos a terminar esta semana con la celebración del Día de San Valentín, así que no se olvide de unirse a nosotros de 1: 45-2: 45 para nuestras fiestas en el salón.

Here is what we have been up to/ Esto es lo que hemos estado haciendo

We have started the 2015 with a bang! In reading we have begun our new read aloud book, Dead City, which is a favored Bluebonnet book in the 2014-2015 list. The scholars are enjoying getting to know the main character, Molly, and her work to protect the city of New York from zombies! We have studied about paired passages, authors purpose, and we are now going to be analyzing text and paragraph structures to help us not only in reading but writing as well.

In addition, we have revised our expository essay on our favorite season and we are going to begin writing on a new topic this week. After conferencing with all scholars, the scholars made a plan to learn more about transition words or phrases to help their sentences and paragraphs flow throughout their writing.

Lastly, in Social Studies, scholars concluded their learning about the Texas Revolution by participating in an engineering mission. Scholars had to create a flag that they would used during the Revolution after learning about the "Come and Get It" flag at the Battle of Gonzales. Your scholars are very creative and did a fantastic job working together in cooperative groups. We even had a special visitor from Argentina that day and she just loved how well the scholars participated and were engaged in the challenge.


¡Hemos empezado el 2015 con buen pie! En lectura comenzamos nuestro nuevo libro, Dead City, que es uno de los libros favorito de la lista de los libros Bluebonnet de este año escolar. Los estudiosos están disfrutando de conocer el personaje principal Molly y su trabajo para proteger la ciudad de Nueva York de zombies. Hemos estudiado pasajes similares, propósito del autor y ahora van a ser análisis de diferentes textos para ver la estructura del los párrafos.

Además, en escritura hemos revisado nuestro ensayo expositivo sobre nuestra estación favorita. En esta semana vamos a escribir sobre un nuevo tema. Después de conferenciar con los todos los estudiosos, hemos hecho un plan para aprender más acerca de las palabras o frases de transición para ayudar con la fluidez de sus oraciones y párrafos a través de su escritura.

Por último, en los estudios sociales, los estudiosos concluyeron su aprendizaje sobre la Revolución de Texas al participar en una misión de ingeniería. Los eruditos tuvieron que crear una bandera que pudieran usar durante la Revolución después de enterarse de la bandera, " Come and Get It ", en la Batalla de Gonzales. Sus estudiosos son muy creativos e hicieron un trabajo fantástico trabajar juntos en grupos cooperativos. Incluso tuvimos un visitante especial de Argentina ese día y a ella le encantó lo bien que participaron los eruditos y su dedicación en el desafío.

Skyped with our friends at Silver Lake to discuss the end of our read aloud, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.  We will begin a new book when we come back in January.
Conectamos con nuestros amigos en Silver Lake para discutir el final de nuestro libro, El Viaje Milagroso de Edward Tulane.  Empezaremos un nuevo libro cuando regresemos en enero.  

Worked on a Mind Mission engineering project where scholars had to create a tall tower that was found in missions in Texas to warn others of possible attacks.
Trabajamos en un proyecto de ingeniería donde eruditos tuvieron que crear una tore que se encontraba en misiones de Texas para advertir a otros de possibles ataques.  

Had Mrs. Blizzard and Mrs. Wernicke come to read holiday stories.
Tuvimos a la Sra. Blizzard y Sra. Wernicke en nuestro salon para leer cuentos navideños.  

Heifer International Service Project / Proyecto de Servicio de Heifer Internacional

Our Skype with Silver Lake / Nuestro Skype con Silver Lake

Our scholars had an opportunity to have interactive group discussions on our read aloud, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, with scholars from Silver Lake.  Our scholars really enjoyed interacting with other fourth graders!  Our next Skype is scheduled in three weeks!

Nuestros eruditos tuvieron la oportunidad de tener discusiones interactivas sobre nuestro libro, El Prodigioso Viaje de Edward Tulane, con los eruditos de Silver Lake.  Los eruditos realmente disfrutaron de la interacción con otros estudiantes de cuarto grado.  ¡Nuestro próximo Skype sera en tres semanas!

Reflection / Refleccion

Our unit, "It takes a thousand voices to tell a single story", has come to an end. Our scholars reflected by using the Portrait of a GCISD Graduate to make connections between what they did during the project and how it ties towards their goal of becoming a GCISD Graduate.

Nuestra unidad, "Se necesita mil voces para contar una sola historia," a concluido.  Nuestros eruditos reflexionaron sobre el proyecto usando el Relato de un Graduado de GCISD para hacer conexiones entre lo que hicieron durante el proyecto y como conecta con la meta de hacer un Graduado de GCISD.
